Leadership Team

Ian Stevens

Chief Executive Officer

Ian Stevens joined the company in November 2007 as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Mpathy Medical, Ian worked for Optos, a medical technology company specializing in devices that image the retina, from 1999-2007. He served as General Manager for North America where he had responsibility of all operations in the US and Canada. He also served as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Operations prior to his appointment as General Manager.

Ian began his career as an accountant to the Queen's Flight of Aircraft in the UK. In 1991, Mr. Stevens joined KPMG in the UK before being transferred to the Czech Republic in 1995 as a Manager in Corporate Finance. He later returned to the UK and worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Edinburgh in a similar role.

Ian holds a master's degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh and is a professionally qualified accountant.

James Browning, MD, MBA, FRCS, FRCOG

Founder & Chief Technology Officer

Dr. James Browning founded Mpathy Medical in 2003. James has a broad understanding of the surgical medical device development process, particularly in women’s health.

Prior to founding Mpathy Medical, James served as Research & Development Director for Ethicon, Johnson & Johnson in Edinburgh. Subsequently, he became Director of New Businesses with sales and marketing responsibility for two high growth medical device business units including Gynecare.

James received his Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery from University of Manchester, M.D. from the University of Bristol, and MBA from the Strathclyde Business School. From 1991-1994, he held posts as the Consultant Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Michael’s Hospital, Bristol, UK where he pioneered the development of the gyne endosurgery unit . He also served as Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist at the National Women’s Hospital, Auckland, NZ, where he set up the national incontinence unit. He completed his medical training at Manchester, Bristol, Southampton, and Oxford in the UK in 1980-1990. He also completed fellowships with the Royal College of Surgeons and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists during his training. James has published over 62 academic papers and 4 chapter books.

Karen Miller Gillis

Vice President, Sales & Marketing

In January 2008, Karen Miller Gillis joined Mpathy Medical as Vice President, Sales & Marketing bringing with her over 13 years of sales and marketing experience in the medical device industry. Prior to joining Mpathy Medical, Karen worked at Optos from 1999-2008 during which time she held positions as Director of Marketing and Director of National Accounts.

Prior to working for Optos, Karen worked for Haemonetics Corporation, firstly as a Business Analyst and latterly as Surgical Product Manager.

Karen holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from Brown University.

Caroline Stretton

Director of Quality & Regulatory Affairs

Caroline Stretton joined Mpathy Medical in 2003 bringing with her 15 years of management experience in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. Caroline oversees all regulatory, and quality aspects associated with new product introductions, manufacturing supply chain, quality management systems, and regulatory filings. Caroline also manages the new product development department. Prior to joining Mpathy Medical, Caroline worked at Metris Therapeutics as a Programme Manager and held various posts at IVAX Pharmaceuticals within their production, R&D, and new product development.

Caroline received her PhD in Pure and Applied Chemistry from the University of Strathclyde.

Melissa Peloquin
Director, HR & Administration

Melissa Peloquin joined Mpathy Medical as the Director of Administration in December 2007 bringing with her over 15 years of experience in administration and operations throughout a number of industry sectors including health care. Most recently Melissa worked at Optos where she oversaw all aspects of Administration and Human Resources from 2000 to 2007.

Melissa is certified as a Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resources Certification Institute.

Alan Short
 
Director of Manufacturing
 
Alan Short joined the Mpathy Medical team in July 2008 bringing with him over 15 years of experience in operational management, regulatory affairs, supply chain management, and business strategy development in the health care and high technology industries. Alan is responsible for all manufacturing, operations, and supply activities at Mpathy Medical. Prior to joining Mpathy Medical, Alan served as the Director of Quality & Regulatory Affairs at Omega Critical Care and held influential positions during the start up of Optos PLC and Lexmark International in Scotland.

Alan holds a honors degree in Engineering with Management from Napier University.

Non-Executive Directors
