Smartmesh™ has patented interstitial Smartpores™ of 100 micron diameter which allow for preferential fibroblastic entry. Therefore, the combination of strand diameter, macroporous construction and the actual size of the interstitial spaces, have been shown to promote stronger new collagen formation and more mature collagen than heavy meshes. Additionally, Smartmesh™ causes less chronic inflammation than heavier meshes as macrophages and neutrophils are better able to enter the Smartpores™ so as to reduce the proliferation of infection. Smartmesh™ is soft to the touch and most importantly non-palpable to the patient, which allows for less post surgical vaginal rigidity.
